While the Tigris Fulgor was built to be the most powerful of M.A.V.'s in the colonial arsenal, some elite pilots did not "earn their stripes" utilizing long-range weaponry. Indeed some of them did not like the idea of depending on a gunner to man their secondary weapons either. As humanity expanded further and encountered numerous alien species of varying levels of technology/aggression, there were those pilots that found that they preferred to use their Massive Assault Vehicles both solo and directly in the face of their enemy. Occasionally this preference came about simply by being cut off from allies and completely out of ammunition. Whatever the reason, the typical Tigris Fulgor would be wasted in their hands because it was designed for firepower and not mobility. Yet an elite pilot was not something to be relegated to a mass-production unit, hence another "Tiger" needed to be produced.

The resulting solution was a close-range melee model with high-mobility and additional shielding. The Tigris Trilacera features 3 deadly plasma blades and a single pilot seat. While the Fulgors are often used to defend vital facilities, the Trilaceras tend to see far more use offensively. When a large pirate base has been located, or a hostile species violates Earth Union claimed territory, a cruiser group with escorts, carrying dozens of mass-production M.A.V.'s led by a single Trilacera, is often the response from Sector Defense Command(SecDef for short). As with all Tigris variants, the pilots face careful vetting because the machines are the best Colonial Administration has to offer. In the event of a dissension among the ranks of the normal forces leading to mutiny, SecDef is expected to be capable of handling it without the need to call in the Special Tasks Division. This was one of the primary reasons behind the Tigers, for if a sector was deemed incapable of maintaining control over its colonies it would incur the wrath of the Earth Forces and their extreme methodology. This was why the Trilacera and Fulgor's weapon systems were designed for maximum effect against human-made craft.

When the Saurians invaded Lenaion Eleusis and thousands of ships darkened her skies, the Tigers from a hundred worlds were organized in a single unit. The "Aurum Cattus Battalion" was tasked with protecting the largest city on the planet and its emergency shelters, filled to the brim with frightened, huddled masses of civilians. They did not disappoint for despite taking horrible losses against wave after wave of Saurian fighters, they managed to destroy every ship that came within range and utterly devastated the Saurian ground forces. The same could not be said for all cities attacked that day, but the Tigers had proven their worth and would see extended duty in campaigns across a dozen sectors, fighting in every major battle of the war.
