Atropos Patrol

The Atropos System lies on the edge of New Orion Alliance territory at a confluence of space lanes, a bottleneck for any hostile fleets sent by the Saurian Empire or other powers from that quadrant. The space lanes are only necessary to species that use hyperspace as a means of FTL(the Orions themselves prefer small jumpgates) and are corridors between large sections of the galaxy where such travel is particularly efficient. Some theorize that they are the leftovers of a long lost civilization's attempt to make transit easier by manipulating hyperspace itself but regardless of the reason, the Orion Alliance faced attacks so often that the system became heavily fortified with starbases near the space lane apertures. As a secondary line of defense, the Starcruiser Illyrius and a number of her sister ships patrol the area near Atropos Prime, the only inhabited planet in the system.
